Hey there! I have a little chick that I have been babying for about 2 weeks. I got her and others from a feed store. When I got her they were so packed in the bin that they were walking all over each other. I got her cuz she was small and has fuzzy legs. When I got her home I noticed that she could barely walk. Now she seems to be moving MUCH better but now I notice that her beak is very hooked. Do I need to trim it some how?
Thanks, Here is a picture of her beak.

I had a chick with the same issue last spring. She was also late in feathering (ugly little thing!) We named her Archyopterix the Dino-chicken, or Archie for short.
As time went on I got more and more alarmed by her appearance. She was, by the time the hook was pronounced enough to be really noticable, outside and very skittish so it was hard to get a good look at her, let alone a picture. I finally managed to catch her to get a photo and noticed that the hook was gone! Broke off all on its own, and hasn't come back. She was about...10 weeks old when it finally came off.
I would say leave it unless it really gets in the chick's way. The hook will break off and the chick will turn out fine, if mine is any example. If I didn't have Archie tagged (we are rehoming her so we don't inadvertantly breed mutants) I would no longer be able to tell her apart from her sisters.

I was reading on another post somwhere that a roo's beak was broken of on the top and looked like a under-bite. they put a cender block in the pen and the roo filed his beak down himself... mabie spred somthing yummy(in the chickens piont of view) on the block to in-courage then she may file it herself if not go to the vet he'll trim it for you...

We file our chickens beaks slightly when we bathe & file their nails before a show. It shouldn't hurt the chick to file it's beak. Just be gentle & don't take too much off.
