Do I really need a heatlamp?

Hello all!! So this is the first time I've had a hen hatch her own baby (outside, in a coop). I've been given the advice that I need a heat lamp. My thought was that momma would take care of that?? Haven't chickens been doing this for a millennia?? Is a heat lamp a MUST or just a nice to have?

You do not need a heat lamp if the hen is with the chick.

If the hen is taking care of the babies and the weather is above 40 it'll be fine. if it get's too cold I'd bring mom and babies inside.

Thanks! Honestly the little one showed up just about a week sooner that I thought. It was quite a surprise!

No to the heat lamp. Also no to bringing them inside. Just make sure the chick has access to chick starter and fresh water. Mom is completely capable of keeping chicks warm.
