I have a muscovy, 5 months old, who I thought was a boy due to size and hissing. My female has been flying well for about a month. Today, my suspected male took flight - a good long flight. Could this be a girl?

this is our muscovy in question

Some drakes fly particularly as juveniles. Feral drakes fly! Of my two muscovy drakes, one started flying at 5 months old but stopped within 2 months. I think he likely can fly but doesn't want to. He knows which side his bread is buttered. My other has never flown except down hill from my top step to my pstio.

If yours are flying you may need to clip their wings before they leave home as adolescents are wont to.

I've seen my Muscovy drakes fly. This one was less than a year old but full grown flew over the fence and down to above the river so after I walked him home he got a wing clipping. If he'd landed in the river the current would have taken him.
