I got eggs from a BYC member on here in Texas. Having to beg her to steal some eggs from her starting to go broody hens, she mailed me the eggs on Tues 6/2.
EIGHT DAYS LATER I got them in MI. Thanks postal system. I had almost given up hope by then. All the eggs were intact thanks to some great packing, and I still had the room in the incubator--so I decided to stick them in and cross my fingers, hoping that at least one would hatch? Now, remember, between the collecting, the shipping, and letting the eggs sit a day--the oldest one would be 14 days old at the start of incubation.
Guess what happened yesterday?
4 out of the 7 eggs had developed and those 4 hatched!!!!!
My point? I have learned to give old, postal beaten eggs a chance as you never know what might hatch
