Do Pekin Ducks need water to mate?

I have a trio of Pekin Ducks, two hens and a drake. The hens have recently started laying, and I set 3 eggs but none of them have developed. They have a wading pool in their run, but my husband thinks they mate in water and need for it to be deeper. Does this sound right?

Yes, From what i kno, ducks do need water to mate in.

I have seen mine mate on grass. But I have seen them mate more on water.

Do you know how much water they need? They have a regular sized kids' wading pool at the moment, about 3' across and 6" deep.

I have 3 ducks one is a pekin male and they mate in/out of the water makes no diff to them when the mood hits

I have noticed that when my pekin is in the mood for love he waits till the female is in the pool and ummm- well you know

but my mallard/mix he is a bit more "nasty" and he just grabs the poor girl any time she walks near him.
I plan on getting a much deeper, bigger pool this summer for them so I will see if that makes a difference in thier mating habits.
Sorry your eggs did not hatch I am only going into day 3 for the ones I set
