Do pigeons really mate for life or will they pick another if original dies.

My barn damaged by storm and loft tore up lost 4 pigeons so will their mates pick another mate in time . Just added new stock all young and not bred before.

I believe they do mate for life, but I think they also mate around a bit. I was also told there's a chance they'd mate occasionally with other pigeons, but I think that's mainly the males. Not sure, though, but good luck!

mates pick another mate
In a perfect world they do mate for life (more so than humans honestly). Yes they will select another mate. Also there are times (not often) in my loft were a widowed bird may steal another partner's mate or father two females offspring.

My barn roof damaged so lost about four pigeons and their mates need new pals. Been putting younger birds in with them.

Sorry to hear about the damage.

Pigeons do mate for life, but they will pick a new mate if their mate is no longer around (whether it be by death, relocation, new loft, etc).

Pigeons also will have mistresses / side flings, as well as gay relationships.

In sum, your pigeons who have unfortunately lost their mate will find new ones so long as you make them available.

Pigeons, even if their mate is still alive, might pick another. I've had dominant cockbirds steal less a dominant's female. and if one dies, they'll have a new mate in no time.

They will easily pair up again. They usually pair for life... but they nearly always cheat on each other... than is why I have to cage my fancy pigeon pairs up from each other.. otherwise I get a lot of cross breeds!!!

If one of a mated pair dies the survivor will pair up again with another bird quickly.
