I realized that my 4 polish chicks don’t have combs when I was trying to see if they were boys or girls by comb color/size. Is this normal? Will they ever have combs?

Yes they do have combs. Just can't see them because of all that fluff on their heads! :D

Polish have a V comb. You can usually make it out with adult birds, especially males. Polish are a little more tricky to sex by comb and wattle size because everything's hidden under their crests and beards (if yours are bearded--some aren't). Another thing you can look for is the shape of their crests once they fill out. Females will have a more rounded, neat looking crest. Think a nice, round afro. Male's crests will sort of cascade down the sides of his head and not look so neat and feminine. Almost like an Albert Einstein-type haircut. Feathers will also be more pointy in males as well.

Interesting! When will the combs start growing? So I can tell if one is a boy or not?
Young cockerels will usually have most of their sex characteristics by 5 months old. Combs and wattles will be a little more difficult to make out with crested and bearded breeds, like I said before. However, by then you should noticed the differences in feathers as well. Good luck!

Male or female?
