Do Roos feather out first?

A lot of chickens are feather linked... I can't say for sure that they are or aren't hens.... I can tell you that a LOT of breeds the female will feather out first...If you have 1/2 and 1/2 I would place a bet on the long feathers being female... (this is a good guess but not a rule to live by)

I have quite a few out of the 28 that are getting lots of little wing feathers, so cute! I think I am happy about that! not that I mind roosters now, but just not too many of the little rascals!

Thanks!

I never really paid attention to the rate they feather out just that the saddle feathers on the Roos are more pointy and the pullets are more rounded.

I've read that pullets feather out faster than cockerels. But this has never held true for my birds. We keep our hens as layers and eat our roosters, so I try not to get attached to the males. Going by the feather rule, we've had some pretty birds who feathered out very quickly and who we assumed must be hens. So, we banded and named them, but then noticed tell-tale signs of roosterhood! So, I'm not a fan of the feathering out quickly/slowly method of gender guessing.
