Do Roosters Kick?

Well I am just astounded. I had never in all my years heard of Roosters flying up and kicking. My daughter does not feed the chickens alone anymore. I was allowing her to "play" with them alone and for whatever reason he would "kick" her but now we dont do that anymore. Thanks for all of the advice and if the Rooster continues to be aggressive to more people I will get rid of him. And I do not make a practice of "ridiculing" my children's fears. It was quite funny at the time - as my daughter was laughing when she first told me about it. Then when she told me he did it again, I stopped her from going alone to the chickens. She is not afraid of them as long as I am with her.
So please dont consider me a bad Mom! My children come before the chickens - but the chickens are mine and not the children's so I have to keep the children away from the chickens which is hard to do when the children want to play with the chickens - especially my older girls.

maybe i'm just tired of having to do it all alone, but i would like it if i had kids to help out with a few things! it would be neat if your older kids could feed the animals or help you with the chores. so seperating or getting rid of the troublemaker would serve more than just one purpose. it would lighten your own load.

Oh believe me - my children do chores. They care for all of the other animals - minus the chickens and my German Shepherd (the refuse to do poop pick-up duty).
My friends actually tell me that my kids do a lot more then other children their age. I have a 13 year old and an 8 year old. They unload the dishwasher on a daily basis, fold their own laundry, mop floors and vacuum - as well as care for our goats (2), our ducks (3), our rabbits (4) and our cats (2), take out the garbage - all on a daily basis as well. They clean their bathrooms on Saturdays as well as a few specialty chores on the weekends (i.e. dusting, wiping down cabinets)They also help with various things when it comes to their younger siblings (2 & 1). They are good children and I'm blessed to have them. They do receive allowances as long as their chores are done and meet approval on a weekly basis. If trouble keeps up with this one Rooster I will have to get rid of him. I do not want him harming the children. I just didn't realize this was such a common occurrence. Plus he is a Black Austrolorpe and I thought they tended to be gentler. We will see.

Had to eliminate our problem yesterday after our Roo Roto attacked again. He is now in roo heaven. No choice in the matter, I hated to do it, but better him than us getting ripped to shreds. At least now we can relax when we go outside.
