My very broody silkie is raising her first adopted brood. Will this typically break a broody SILKIE? I know others pray for broodies. I want her eggs.
I should also mention, I'm keeping one of the babies. Only on the hope that it'll be a companion to her in our small flock of 7. The others are all standards, and she's at the bottom of the ORDER!

No taking care of the chicks will break the broody cycle. But she wont lay eggs either. At least my cochins don't. In face 2 of my hens are raising chicks and they are over 2 months old. The hens have just now begun to lay again. The last few days I have had to remove Doodle from the nest everytime I go into the coop as she is going broody again. I just pick her up and put her outside and she usually stays off the nest for awhile and I can get the eggs. I want the eggs not another broody lol

They'll stop being broody, but they won't lay until the chicks are bigger. The chicks our silkies are raising are about 7 weeks old now, and the silkies just started laying again today.
