Do you always get what you ordered?

I ordered some ducks (and chicks) from Ideal, and I'm not entirely sure that they sent me the right ones. I ordered crested fawn and white runners, black runners and a few pekins. Two babies (one black, one yellow) died within a few hours of arriving. The rest are growing like crazy, but I see no sign of any crests. My crested chicks' crests were apparent right away, is it different with ducks? Or do I maybe just have non-crested runners? I'm not even entirely sure the remaining yellow ducks are runners at all. The only obvious difference between what I think are the fawn and white runners and the pekins is size. Do people usually have good luck getting what they ordered?

The only time I ordered from a hatchery was from MM, and they did send exactly what I ordered.

As far as the crested ducklings go, my crested F&W runner had a fuzzy round spot on his head a little higher than the rest from the very start. It was very easy to see.

I do have what I think would be called "tufted" on the black drake, and that didn't show up until full feathering. But I'm not sure it's even a good tuft. Looks more like a slight case of bed-head.

Years a go I ordered Eastern Wild turkeys poults from Mcmurray but they turned out looking suspiciously similar (identical) to my Bronze turkeys. I think I got snookered.

I ordered from Ideal and I'm very happy with them so far. I ordered 3 Black Runners, 1 Crested Fawn/White Runer, 1 Crested Cayuga, 1 Crested Khaki Campbell...and all of them except for one Black Runner(passed aw ay in shipment

)are happy in my brooder right now. All my 4 peanuts arrived safely, too, and are warm and happy in a separate brooder.

I ordered from Ideal this spring, and I got substitutions. Australorps didn't come, instead they sent me Easter Eggers. It was clear to me that I had no Australorps, so I checked my packing list. Australorps were listed, but circled in pen. No other indication that a substitution had been made. Lucky for me, I wanted EE's anyway.

Also, my Gold Sex Links are flaming red. Maybe Red Sex Links? Maybe not? Oh, who cares, I love them, too.

I think that when you order, you can request "No Substitutions, Please" in the comments section. I didn't do that. My comment was "No Males for Warmth, Please." Very, very important to me!

Last time I ordered from them I got cross-breeds. They were very nice and refunded my money but I was still left with a pile of mutts - I would rather have had full blood birds than my money back.

I love Ideal Poultry. But once when I ordered from them they sent me blue cochins instead of self blue. I called and told them and she stated at the time of shipping they didn't have self blue so they substituted the others. Then she told me the self blue I ordered could be shipped out the next Wednesday. Very polite plus I got extra chicks, which have actually become my favorites. I really think if you call they will make it right. Just think of it as some neat freebies!

Also when you call them, tell them about the babies that died and they will refund you for those. You just need to call soon. I think there is some kind of time limit.

I ordered a few ducks from Ideal with my chickens this year. First time around they forgot the ducks and 3 cornish pullets. 2nd time shipping they forgot the cornish. They refunded me the money for the cornish.

The ducks are 2 weeks old now and a crest is just starting to show on one. I ordered 3 whatever hatches and the rest different pullet ducks. I'm assuming the crested one is one of the whatevers. Looks weird. It's this little white lump on his head and when I lifted him up to see what it was I saw it was feathers.

Thank you. That is Tom our two year old Royal Palm. He rules the barnyard and he is the culprit who sneaked a breeding or two on my Red Bourbon hen which is resulting in all these mutts I have hatching out.
