My Rooster was a couple years old when I got him and he didn't have any spurs I am pretty sure they had been cut down, His spurs now are about 1.5 Inchs is there a way to trim them? Does it hurt? any tips if I should or shouldn't do it? Thanks

Probably, if he is mating, to prevent slicing the hens' sides open. People us Dreml tools, saws, various methods, but probably the simplest is just get a good hold of him and his leg and twist them off. You can put "trimming spurs" in the regular search bar at the top of the page and get several threads on the subject.

Before you go just 'twisitng them off', look at the day. It really REALY depends on the day on the season of the moon to gauge how much blood there will be. During the full moon, the blood will Mostly be in the head of the bird, so it won't bleed much. But then again I'm a bit biased to this way

Or you can stick a hot potatoe on the spurs, and take it off when it cools then twist and the outer layer of the spur will come off, and it'll be soft.

If the spurs don't bother you, I've never had a problem with spurs, that size or a bit bigger, slicing the hens open. Best of luck!

Does he Mate, this boy don't stop off one on another, He isn't causing a problem yet but they are getting long.

I have little bantie roos and I only cut them down when they start getting in the way of his walking. Usually 1-1.5 inches. I use nail trimmers for cats. There always seems to be a little bit of blood but it doesn't seem to bother the bird too much. Just make sure you have some Corn Starch handy to clot any bleeding that may occur.
