Hi, I am wondering how everyone houses their quail?
I posted about my idea awhile back to see if it was a good idea. Most said it would be ok. I am building a pen under a 20x20 feet barn top (open sided) the sides will be 3/4 inch wire and wire on top. One side is a wooden wall to the back of a horse stall. My major concern is the flooring I was thinking of leaving it dirt but I am confused I hear mixed feelings of this. I have never raised quail before I only want enough for me and my husband to play around with. Please tell me what your thoughts are on a dirt floor.

I keep my quail housed off the ground on 1/2" x 1/2" mesh flooring (they also have a "nest" box). I've heard it's not good to keep quail on dirt because they pick up worms that way, which can then be passed on in their meat (if you're using yours for food). You may want to wait for Monarc to chime in on this one; she's one of the resident quail experts

hey, theres a big topic about this, i have mine on wire, but im switching to a planted ground pen, the wire was fine for about a month then they started to break toe nails and cut there feet and there would be blood everwhere so i decided to switch them to ground, its more natural for them, they like to hide and dust bathe,, but i would wait intill the more expeirienced people come in here,,i like ground but whatever is easier for you, go for it!
