i was woundering if you need nesting boxes for peahens we only have 2 in a big coop with 1 peacock the flooring is hay an straw an i have tires in there outdoor area with hay in them 2.i saw a nest in the corner of the coop nothing in it yet but didn't know if you can just let them lay on the ground we go in there 2 times a day.thanks for any advice

You dont need any, I dont have any yet anyway. I caught my peacocks they were wild, but I am slowly taming them down. One has laid an egg. She laid it in the corner of my chicken coop. But that was a few weeks ago, she hasn't shown anymore signs of egg laying. If you do want to build them a nest box make it around 2'x2"'....

Last year we didn't use nesting boxes. Our peahen just made a depression in the ground and laid her eggs there. A guy we buy peafowl from has a bunch of free-range peafowl and his peahens nest under his feed house in the dirt, and some even lay on top the wire peacock pens.

We just made nest boxes a little bit off the ground in hopes the peahens would use them so we won't have to worry about ants or anything. We have never hatched eggs and we have no idea if ants would kill a peachick trying to hatch so we thought it would be best if they use nest boxes.

I need help with mine! we built a nesting box in the barn stall corner and she is building a nest in the outside pen that has no protection from any weather! should i keep her in the stall until she lays so she will be inside? I live in South Carolina and we are pretty wet right now!
