Do you sell your eggs? What's your process?

I'm not a new chicken keeper, but this year we started over with our flock and after some friends backed out on taking half of our chicks, we were left with about 30 chickens. We have the room for them, but when those hens start laying I am going to be overwhelmed with eggs!

I know that I would have no problem giving these eggs away, but I thought "hey, why not sell them?". I've done my research on my local laws. I understand what I can/cannot do as far as that is concerned.

My questions is, if you sell your eggs out of your home, what is your process? Do you have hours that people can come and buy them? Keep a fridge in the garage and just sell when people pop in? By appointment only? That's the part I'm trying to figure out. Any help and advice would be wonderful!

My selling has been limited to church and work folks, so I deliver. They just let me know what they need, and I bring them and get $. It's great!

I've seen folks here doing self-service in the garage, just a fridge with a money box.

We've also got someone in a nearby town advertising they'll deliver to your home...not sure how they make expenses unless they drive for a living.

I'd say just try things and see how they work for you. At my place, having self service wouldn't work. We have a gate, loose dogs and don't want folks here when we aren't, or when we're otherwise occupied. If you're advertising on CL or at the feed store, etc, you're going to list your phone number anyway, so I'd say set up appointments, at least until you get a good customer base going. You can always change things later, if something's not working.
