Do you think she will make it??

My mother in law's dog attacked my turkey last night. We had one small spot in the run that we had not fully secured yet and the dog (who is usually penned up) found the breach and got in. Pulled out a ton of feathers. I didn't know if she would make it through the night, but she was standing up this morning. My husband is going to get some betadine to put on on it, but do you think she will make it through?

If you can keep it from getting infected, or infested with maggots, I would think she could probably survive that. I have seen my turkeys and other poultry in the past live thru a lot of terrible things. If there are no internal injuries, and she is not losing a lot of blood it will probably be okay. Poor thing, that can't be pleasant! I would just keep it clean, and maybe isolate her if there are other birds or they will peck at the wound which not only introduces germs, but obviously will do more damage. Isolating her in a clean area will also keep her from getting any crud in the wound too. I'd at least do that until it starts healing enough that there is not an open wound. If there is one thing I have learned about poultry is that they can certainly live through some awful circumstances.

Not sure about administering antibiotics, growing up we just always used a good wound dressing and let nature take its course. Maybe someone else will chime in about giving antibiotics. But iodine, or some of that purple wound dressing would probably be your best bet.

My husband just got home to doctor her, I'm at work, and he said she died. The worst part is the other turkey mourning her and didn't want him to carry her out of the run. Said it was sad

Oh No!! I am so sorry!

Maybe she went into shock or something. At least he was there to deal with it and you did not have to. That just really stinks, i was hoping she would pull through. Maybe it was worse than it looked. Poor remaining turkey I hope he/she does not stay sad for long. So sorry you had to go through that and lost the bird.
