Do you think they chased their sibling off?

I had 4 guineas. One guinea got a string from somewhere wrapped around it's leg. We caught it, unwrapped and treated the little cut from the string. Since it was getting late we kept the guinea inside and released it in the morning. It ran right into the barn when released. However, when we got home from work it was no where to be found and we couldn't hear any yelling. I've seen our guineas behave awful toward other poultry I've treated and released back into the barn. I'm wondering if they refused to accept it back and chased it off. Thoughts?

overnight, i doubt it. has it shown up yet?

We lost one for a week. Lost it on Monday and found it the FOLLOWING Monday trapped between the walls in the barn. it fell in and could not get back out. Kept her in for 5 days. put her in a pen inside the coop for 2 more days, then released her with the other 26 guinea and all was ok.

Still missing. Day 4 now. I did walk around the barn and surrounding area looking for either it or it's body. Haven't found either.

Guineas are one breed that is so hard to predict when caring for them. They can and will on occasion take a hike for days, even weeks then come back. Because they have full flight capabilities they are not limited to a small area they become adventurous at times.

Since I raise a mixed flock I find guineas don't really like being around other chickens. They have a bit of an antisocial attitude. Your guinea may be licking its wounds elsewhere for a while and may return. If it is a female she could be nesting away from the barn as part of their antisocial behavior. I find guineas want to nest away from other birds.

Since they have such good flight capabilities I have lost dozens free ranging. I take a walk around my 28 acres here and find they hang out in the trees and I have seen keets running around with their moms from time to time. They are a hard bird to keep around especially if you have a mixed flock.

I have to bite the bullet sometimes and realize they are what they are and eventually most come back. Since they are super fast on the feet and flight capable they give themselves lots of space to roam. I don't have the heart to forcibley confine my guineas so I have to suck it up when they disappear for a lenght of time... Steve

hoe you find her. any chance she is on a nest somewhere in the bushes?

I don't know that she'd be nesting. They've all 4 been in the barn and she only went missing the day I released her back with the flock. I have noticed they don't like the other birds but we have a really large area for them as our barn is pretty huge. They've never disappeared before. I guess being caught and contained could have been a bit too much for the guinea to take. Hopefully she just flew off somewhere.
