My ten week old poults are getting really long toenails!
They do not do much walking on concrete or asphalt to grind them down. They’re on grass and shavings that have mats under them. The only time they’re on a surface that would wear them down is when they’re pooping all over my driveway (which may seem like a lot when I’m hosing it off daily but it’s not often).
This begs the question- DO YOU TRIM YOUR TURKEYS NAILS?
my guys and girls are getting kind of twisted toes if you will. And if so, do you do it when they’re on the roost or enlist a human helper?

With all poultry we trim as necessary. We use a dog nail trimmer. We usually hold them by the feet with their chests on the ground or on a table. Adult turkeys are heavy and strong. My husband hold them and it can be a rough thing. We generally just trim toms nails and spurs in the spring to avoid mating wounds on hens. I personally wouldn't trim them on a regular basis as it's too stressful and hard to do. If a particular bird has longer nails for whatever reason we trim as necessary. Make sure you have a blood stop product on hand in case you hit the vein.

Trim as necessary but dont go overboard with it. I'd only start on ones that are causing crooked toes. It can be done solo when they're on the roost. Otherwise it's a 2 person ordeal. Dog nail trimmer works great.
