Do you wait 3 days to turn your shipped eggs?

Quick question :) I have put my eggie's in the the incubator, in the turner but I have it off. I've heard you wait 3 days to turn them if they were shipped. Do any of you follow this rule? if not how long should I wait before turning it on to let the egg "re-attach". this my first time using a turner. my first hatch I turned them manually on there sides not upright. didn't know if it makes a difference. thx in advance

Have you candled them? What does the air sacs look like? I know some people do not turn for the first few days of incubation, others let the eggs rest for 24 hours and then incubate as normal. It really depends on the condition of the air sac. If it's detached I'd say give it a few days to reattach, if it looks o.k. start turning on the second day. One tip for incubating shipped eggs: incubate them upright in egg cartons with the bottom cut out, to allow air circulation, and tilt them at a 45* angle instead of turning them. Keep them in the cartons until they hatch.

I did candle a few before I put them in there and the yolks were floating on the first 10 or so I assumed the rest were as well. I'm going to candle again on day 3 just to be sure. No blame on the shipper she packaged them perfect, its just a risk you take when getting shipped eggs. Its virtually impossible to insure the eggs don't get jarred the intire trip and Post offices just don't take the care needed even if the box has a NEON sign saying fragile lol.

I tell people to mark the boxes as "Do Not Shake" instead of "Fragile".

If you see the workings on the inside of the mail system - it does not make much difference. The postal worker is only touching them for a few minutes. If you have ever tried to dislodge an air cell by shaking it - it takes major effort.

All packages are handled by machines. The get dumped out of bins and fall up to 6 feet onto the conveyer - will all the other packages landing on top of them - including the 8 bricks some clown sent in a flat rate box to his buddy as a prank.

No packages get special handling. The onus is on the shipper. He can get insurance if he is concerned. This does not bode well for us and the egg buyers around the country. Its a crap shoot.

I send shippers a modified version of the "shippers please read" in my signature or ask them about how they ship before I buy
