I'm planning on purchasing some baby chicks, do you know any tame breeds that would do well around children? I have a 8 year old and a 6 year old. They showed interest in Easter Eggers, is that a good breed to have around children? I've had chickens before and I want to start a new flock.

Easter Eggers are usually okay around children. My children, and now my granddaughter love Easter Eggers because of the colored eggs so I have always kept some in the flock. If you are getting chickens for egg production, Black Australorps or Black Sex Link (Black Stars) are gentle and docile around children. My children made pets of them. If egg production is not a priority, Cochins, Brahmas, Orpingtons, and Silkies (I have had all of them and am speaking from experience) are all very friendly and gentle chickens. As for hatcheries, I have ordered chickens from Murray McMurray Hatchery (http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/index.html), Ideal Poultry (http://www.idealpoultry.com/), Cackle Hatchery (http://www.cacklehatchery.com/), and Dunlap Hatchery (https://www.dunlaphatchery.net/), and have been satisfied with all four of them.
