Doe ate and killed her 4 day old kits

I was told my info from someone who raised over 6000 bunnies. So I did what I was told and all bunnies are now happy. :) Anyway the only reason they were left together after the first set of babies who died was because we were leaving for vacation the next day and we did not have a separate cage. We had to buy the material and all when we got back to build a new one. We were trying to build before she had the new babies but apparently he got her pregnant when she was already pregnant. Which I was told was rare but could happen. We have had an experience for sure raising bunnies lol
I'm glad everything has worked out for you. :)

When I was in my teens, we had this happen over and over - the doe would kindle, and the next day we would come out to the cage to see baby bunny heads. We finally realized it was because we had the buck and doe together.Having the buck and doe together stresses the doe, and can cause her to eat her babies. (My family can be pretty slow...) Now I raise rabbits, and I'm far better informed than I was.

Be sure to have separate cages for the love birds ASAP!

Also, once you have a new litter, you may need more cages, depending on how long you have the kits. After 8 weeks or so, you should separate out the males - put them all into an other cage. However, soon more cages will be needed: when they hit sexual maturity they'll need their own cages or they'll fight. An alternative is neutering them; you can take them to the vet, or even do it yourself, if you're adventurous and careful. :) The does should be OK with the mom, but you'll want to get them out of there before the next litter arrives.

@4ChickFarm my doe was kept far from the buck.. He may have got out and been outside her cage though.

Huh :( I don't know, then - but there's a great website called rabbittalk.com where there are tons of experts - if you're looking for more ideas, that's where I'd go.

Yay for happy bunnies. It's live and learn you know? Some does tolerate things some don't. I have one that wants me to build her nest, another that will "remodel" if I touch her hay! Some abort if I move them, others don't. Glad they're all good. The kids look like they love them!!

She was a first time mom so its possible she didn't feed, they died then she started eating to avoid predators... Not really sure but she pulled fur this time around so hopefully I won't find dead bunnies.
