I'm posting this for my aunt. Heres the facts I have
3 year old boer doe. 1st kidding. She had triplets 1 really big and 2 smaller kids. 1 of the smaller kids died. The problem is apparently since she has kidded (last thursday) she has only drank a measurable amount of water twice and only nibbles her feed. She is taking care of the kids, cleaning them, calling to them, laying with them, tries to nurse but there isn't much milk. I don't know if she is running a fever. I'm in MN my aunts in Cali. I asked her if she seems dehydrated asked about her color. Aunt said they really haven't messed with her much because she is a skittish doe in the first place and they don't want to upset her. I personally think that at this point I would call in a vet if she is worried about stressing her out to evaluate. Anyone else have any ideas? Also not noticeable damage from the birth. She hasn't been leaking any abnormal discharge or blood or anything to that effect.

I'm with you... when in doubt call a vet. If they can't get in there to take a temp and establish what her current vitals are how can they decide if all is okay? If the kids are not getting enough to eat they will suffer as well. Birthing and raising little ones is a tough job and not for the faint of heart. Lots can go wrong as right and animals look to us for care and help when needed. Call vet, it does not sound like your aunt has the experience to tell if they are in trouble before it's too late.

This is her first experience with kidding and they bred 3 does. All have kidded now and are fine except this doe. Its also hard for me to really help because I'm going on what she is telling me. I don't know if shes missing something that I may see in person. There fore I understand its harder for you guys to help me because you are going off of what I can tell you. I do know that she said they are going to try and start bottle feeding the kids tonight.

If the doe is off feed AND water, she needs to be seen by the vet. There are so many things that could be wrong. I am glad they are going to bottle feed the babies. But the mother needs to have attention too.

Did they assist the birth? (go inside to pull or arrange kids?) if so, she probably has an infection if they didn't get antibiotics in here. Need to get a temp on her, high temps they won't eat.
