Does a broody hen stop laying????

I have a silkie that has deceided to go broody. This being my first broody I was wondering if and when she will stop laying. Also when she left the nest yesterday other hens jumped into her nesting box and laid additional eggs. They shoild all be fertile so I guess she will hatch them also. When do you start counting days?

Broodies stop laying right around when they start sitting.

yep hello fellow marylander my broody cochin stoped laying and now the chicks are 3 or 4 weeks old and she still hasnt layed yet when she does i hope its alot of eggs

I guess I can hijack my own post. Barred Rocks are going to be my next addition to the flock. What part of Maryland are you in?
