I have a trio of bronze turkeys. I was thinking about getting 1 or 2 royal palm hens that are for sale near me. I'm curious to know what would a cross of this breed look like. Does anyone have any? I would love to see a picture. I have 2 young black turkeys but I don't know the breed or the sex of them yet. They are 2 months old. Neither have fluffed there feathers to strut or anything and they are growing up with guineas. If they are all hens my tom is going to be very busy...... lol. Please, I'd love to know and see a picture of your bronze and royal palm cross.

If you cross a tom bronze and a hen royal palm, all offspring will be bronzes carrying recessive black-wing, palm, and narragansett genes that will pretty much go unnoticed. However, if the tom is a royal palm and the hen is bronze, the toms will look like bronzes and the hens will look like Narragansetts, again with all birds carrying recessive black-wing and palm genes, and the tom carrying recessive Narragansett.

So basically the offspring won't show much of a change from the bronze. Although, the offsprings offspring can show changes down the line depending on what they breed with. Correct? It would be Bronze tom with RP hen. Thank you, you are veyr helpful. Now I have to figure out what my black turkeys are all about. They were given to me so I don't know the sex yet and I have to find out who the parents were. They are about 2 months old.

We have had this cross in the past.. and have gotten poults hatched from both colors...

You can't expect to breed a Bronze to a Royal Palm, and get a Bourbon Red.

No, I was just wondering what color the bird would be. I'm not sure if I am getting the RP's but it's still interesting to know what different breeds turn out. I do like to keep the breeds together though.

well then, you get bronze colored ones, royal palm colored ones, and ones that show charactoristics of both colors... same as with pretty much about every cross out there between two straight breeds, or two colors.

these yearlings are a cross between my Royal palm Tom and My Broad breasted

I'm so glad you shared this photo, Lisa! I've got two hens that I was told were Spanish Black, but are obviously a Bronze and a Black-Winged Bronze, and one is sitting on a clutch of eggs sired (hopefully with success) by my Royal Palm tom. If I'm understanding Lagerdogger's post correctly, the cross will make it pretty easy to determine males vs. females pretty early on! :D

They look identical at hatch. the girls don't turn white for 2 or 3 months ....Bummer

I'm okay with that! It'll still let me know well before I normally would. I've had some late bloomers surprise me in the past. One year, I purchased a tom because all my poults were hens. Surprise surprise, a couple of months later, almost all of my "hens" ended up being toms... Oops!
