Does anyone have Marans for sale in OR???

You know, I was just looking on CL, Portland, and I did a search for Marans - there are a few for sale there.... you might want to take a look.

I don't think I'd take $30, I gave $40 for them when I bought them. But, if you don't find anything, I would still be willing to bring some eggs with me when I come down.

Look at Craigslist, Portland and see what you think.... I'm concerned that you may not be happy with my girls, when they go broody, they don't lay for quite a while and they've both been broody twice since May - I've gotten very few eggs from them this summer :(

I talked it over with my other half - he doesn't want me to sell the girls, he likes having the mammas with chicks (I'm a little surprised). However, when they come back into lay I can ship you a few eggs, if you still want some...

You really should check out Craigslist. I've seen some good deals in your area, not hatchery birds either.

I'm not sure yet, but I've been thinking about contacting Cree Farms (they're north of me a little ways) and maybe getting a few eggs from them - they have good quality birds.

I live in Vancouver, WA. I have a French Black Copper Marans rooster that I may need to get rid of in the next couple of months. I was told he was hatched from a very dark egg. His colors are beautiful. I'm posting as a tag in case I do- his hen he came with is awfully attached to him so I'd hate to seperate them. The neighbors haven't started complaining about the crowing..... yet.

If you're wanting hens there's this ad on craigslist now:

$25 seems right around the going price for a pullet of this breed.

Nope. I bought 3 straight run chicks and only got one hen. She hasn't started laying yet. She's the sweetest hen. If we do sell/eat the rooster I'm afraid she may get picked on by my older pullets. ;(

There are some breeders in the PDX area, they just don't have any posted now. If you're willing to drive up to Kelso or Kalama I know there are some up there as well.

Here's a breeder I almost got chicks from, she may have some she'd be willing to part with?: http://pinksmarans.com/

Not sure how dark the eggs are. If that's what you're looking for I'd ask to see the eggs the hens are laying. Just because it's the right breed doesn't mean it will give you dark eggs. I bought 2 Cuckoo Marans at the feed store which just started laying and they color is disappointing. Don't get me wrong- darker than what you can by at the store but not the chocolate I was hoping for. Also, Marans are not the only birds that lay dark eggs.

Good luck! I've got my fingers crossed that Isabel will start laying something dark and delicious!
