Hi All,

I am in the market for another coop. Yes, another one, I already have 5 but for me its not enough.
I like the kit coops or prefab coops. I have been using them for 5 years and love them. My backyard in secure with privacy fence plus electric fensing running around the outside of the wood privacy fence. So predators for me are not an issue.

This is my backyard. The girls are very secure and protected. As you can see I have several kit coops.

Anyway, I am looking at this one (below), I was wondering if anyone else had this one. If so could you give me your review of it and some pics if possible. I am looking to purchase it from Tractor Supply, but their website does not have many images of it.

Thanks

No, but it seems really neat. More like an aviary for pigeons than chickens but you seem like you can make anything work. I have coop envy bad!

Thanks, I thought it looked more like an aviary too, it has a very interesting look. I just wish that the website had more images of it. I googled it and that does not help either. Apparently it is fairly new, no reviews or nothing. I was just hopping that someone here had it and can tell me more about the details of it.

Can't really help in regards to that coop. I do have a question. You say you don't have any worries about predators. Are hawks, owls, and the like not in your area? I feel so bad that I can't free range my girls but I've had hawks sit in the branch above the covered run and coop in broad daylight with me standing th the run. Cheeky buggers!:rant

I do have to worry about the occasional hawk and so forth. But that is about it. When I notice an uptick in the hawk activity I just keep the girls in all their pens for a week or so till the hawk gets discouraged and leaves. But as for the 4 footed predators the fencing pretty much keeps them at bay. I do have the occasional rogue snake that will sneak into the coops and steal eggs but that is about it.

when I first thought about having chickens I wanted to first make sure that their free ranging space would be secure. so we put up a 6 foot wood privacy fence then for an extra measure ran an electric fence around it to keep animals from climbing or digging under it. I don't have as much as a rabbit get back there.

So, yes, I do have to keep an eye out for hawks, but if I see an issue its just a security measure of keeping the girls locked up for a few weeks till it finally realizes that there will be no "take out" meals availble here.

Snakes are only an issue in the summer, I just get them and put them on there other side of the fence. Not a big deal.

So, the girls get to free range and tend my garden all day. They make great pest control for all the gardens.

I have always had hawks around even before chickens were a thing here. The covered run is my answer. Now, snakes.... that's a different kettle of fish. I am seriously petrified of snakes. I once threw a heavy kitchen chair at my son when he waved a paisley blue wood bead toy snake with a smile and extended eye lashes painted on its paisley blue oversized wooden head at me. *shudders at the memory*.

I don't like snakes either, but I have gotten used to them. As long as its not a venamous one its no big deal. For the most part I just get black snakes and king snakes. If its a king snake I will let it stay in the backyard because they eat the venomous snakes. It does not hurt my chickens just takes the eggs, which is not a huge deal especially if it is keeping other things under control. My husband and sons hate snakes, so if there is a snake in the coop I am the one who gets it out. Funny how that worked out. But then again I have always been a bit strange and find snakes to be absolutely amazing creatures.

The hawks here are usually worse in the winter months. During the spring, summer, and early fall their food source is plentiful. But after the cold sets in their food source becomes scarce so I have to be a bit more watchful of their presence. But for the most part, if the weather is cold, or wet the girls would rather stay in their pens where it is warm and cozy. So really they pretty much lock them selves up most of the winter. But still I keep a close eye out for hawks.
