Does anyone know if sprouted rye should smell like vinegar?

I have them in the fridge in a tupperware with paper towels. They have smelled this way from the day I took them out of the sprouting jar. They are not slimy at all, but there is an almost slight oily feeling, but so so slight. You really can't feel it, but because of the strong vinegar smell, I keep feeling the sprouts and then my fingers after touching for any residue, so that's why I say the oily feel is really slight.

I wouldn't think that they should smell like that, but I'm no expert. Most sprouts I've been around (but I've not done rye) just smell like, well, plants. Sort of earthy and fresh smelling, like fresh picked produce, if that makes sense.
