I have 2 barn cats and noticed that they are digging around the run fence about 4 inches and urinating in the hole. The fence is dug 12 inches down around the perimeter so I don't think they are digging to get in. Any ideas from the cat whisperers?

I dump wet coffee grounds on the areas where I want cats to keep away from . Dont know if they dont like the feel or the smell but it works pretty well to keep them out of my flower beds. Maybe that will work for you too

Sorry, They are probally marking their territory. Just like dogs male cats like to do this.

Along with marking territory it might be a warning to predators to stay away. I've seen Pudster do that around the baby pen here and it seems like he does it with a definite pattern.

I don't think they're marking their territory--cats usually spray when they're doing that. Maybe it is because the dirt is loose there and it is easier to dig a potty hole.

Cats like to bury their waste, if it's sandy around the fence then it's probably the easiest place for the cats to do it.

I agree with la dee da. Outdoor cats tend to go to the bathroom were ever there is sand, or loose soil deep enough to burry thier stuff in.
Maybe you could dump a pile of sand out in the woods or something. I'm sure the cats would notice that and start using it.

Could someone come over and teach my cats to BURY their waste.
I think the chickens taught them some bad habits.
