Does egg color ever indicate a problem? (with pic)

We've been having some funny colored eggs lately. I have 8 RSL's and their eggs range from a dark brown with speckles to a light brown. So in the past few weeks we've gotten a few eggs that are barely colored or resemble an easter egg that has been dipped in one color and then had just the ends dipped into another... so striped. And they are a little on the rough side. We had one that was thin shelled as well, but since then we haven't had any issues with shell thickness... just color.

They will be 24 weeks tomorrow... so is this an age issue? Or is it something that I indicated a problem that I need to address?

Variation from hen to hen is normal. A hens color can wax and wane over time, depending on how much pigment she has to work with. Their timing can get out of wack and apply the pigment at the wrong time. And they can sputter on the pigment to produce spots. All normal things that happen. These are the things that commercial producers sort out. Now if you want eggs of all one color get a white layer.

Those eggs look exactly like our eggs! I think perfectly fine!! I can tell who laid what egg by the color. One girl gives us a little speckles, one is always lighter, the third is brown and always big! Love the differences

Thanks. I'm not so much worried about color as long as it's normal!! I love the differences in our eggs. I've enjoyed learning about the differences in our chickens even though they are all considered "RSL's" there are definite differences among them.
