does Mr. Goose need a wife?

I got a man goose (chinese) from a lady who had her local agway accidentally slip a goose into her duck order. Anyway, He has adopted my orphaned ducklings, and they are almost grown up now (born in end of august). None of them have drake feathers, and i don't know if they are all girls or not feathered, or what. Anyway, I am concerned that mr. goose might try to mate with the ducks, and am thinking about getting him a missus. anyway, is this a good idea? Should I get a chinese missus, or does it matter? If i get her as a chick, will he try to adopt her too? is that perverted? advice?

Ducks and geese will attempt to breed eachother in their first year when the size differential isn't that great. My drakes often go for young geese. Nothing really bad comes of it; and eventually the geese are so much larger that the ducks stop trying. Hell, our roosters do the same thing with young waterfowl.

Chinese can be a little difficult to sex; but if you are sure it's a male I would try to get a couple females for him.

Regarding the plumage on the ducks, sometimes in their first year ducks will not develop their nuptial plumage as they will in subsequent years. They tend to stay with a dirty eclipse pattern, which can make it hard to tell the sexes apart if your eye isn't trained yet to the subtleties.

Wow. I really have no idea what you just said! Eclipse? huh? i think my goose is a man goose because his head knob is gigantic, way over the top of his head level, he sort of squeakyhonks, like someone blowing their nose really loud, and he doesn't lay eggs even though he was born in may. I assume that by adding these things up, it makes him a man.I would be thrilled to be wrong! You think 2 ladies? I'll have to start working on my husband... trying to convince him... do you think that i should get the same kind of goose as him? Will he hurt my ducks if he tries to mate with them? I assume that by duck-plumage, you are referring to the curly feather that my ducks don't have. they all quack really loud...

I don't think a gander (man goose) will get a drake (man duck) curl.

I think your gander would be much happier if you got him a mate, he would even like it if you got another gander, they are very social. I have 3 ganders (2 chinese, 1 roman tufted) and one hen (american buff). they all try to mate with her. They also try to mate with my ducks so I keep them separate, as they are too big and could hurt my ducks.
