Yesterday I had let my chickens out of the coop when I noticed one of them had her eye closed. Her lower eyelid was swollen shut and when I opened it there was a liquid in there end her eye looked pushed back. This morning, I noticed that three other chickens were just like that! Could it be conjunctivitis? Please help me because my chickens are pet chickens and I don’t want them to die. I’ll try to send a picture later when I get a chance. What can I do to fix it?

It would help to see a picture. Do you see any bubbles/foam in the eyes, or any white gunk? Have you added any new birds recently? Are any of the birds sneezing, having rales or rattly breathing, or gasping? Are there any signs of peck marks near the eyes? A swollen eyelid can be due to pecking, getting something in the eye, and from a respiratory disease that affects the sinuses. Those include mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) and coryza. Coryza has a bad odor. Getting something stuck in the eye or a peck can become abscessed and smell as well. Tylan or Tylosin can treat signs of MG, while coryza may be treated with sulfa antibiotics. An abscess might be treated with another antibiotic.
