My two and a half month old buff orpington keeps opening her mouth like she is breathing out of it. I watched a video of a chicken with gapeworm and it looks exactly like that. She doesn't have any visible red worms down her throat. i tried putting some oil down her throat and messaging her throat but it didn't work. She has been doing it for a little over a week. She feels really light and kind of off balance. But she seems to be eating and drinking fine. She is sneezing a lot, too. Does anyone know what is wrong with her?

If she had gapeworm, your BO wouldnt be eating nor drinking and would be dead in a weeks time You gave her oil and massaged her throat, she wouldve passed or puked up debris if it was lodged in her throat or crop. Since she is sneezing, there are only two possibilities left; either it's an environmental issue or a respiratory problem. If it's environmental; such as inhaling feed dust, pollen, ammonia fumes from soiled bedding etc...the environmental problem can be dealt with or eliminated. If it's a respiratory problem, I recommend that you cull her before it spreads to other birds.

It's most likely a respiratory infection like pnemounia. Good luck.

I delt with this last year. I treated with antibiotics, vitamins and probiotics. They all lived, but are now carriers.

How long does she have if it is a respiratory infection? And where do you get the antibiotics and vitamins? Are being off balance and losing weight signs of a respiratory infection? Thank you!
