I just noticed these spots this morning on two of our girls. Our Dominique and buff Orpington had these spots. It’s been raining here some and the temps had dropped into the 20s at night. They have mulch from trees we’ve cut down in the run and pine bedding in their coop. We just cleaned the coop bedding a few days ago it had gone a little longer between cleanings then I normally do. They are acting normally don’t feel skinnier and are eating and drinking normally. I’ve been reading about prevention and treatment just wanted to see what more experienced chicken keepers think of it. Thank you!

Pictures of the spots would help, please?

Look like peck injuries or possibly scraping on something sharp. Frostbite looks somewhat different. How many birds in what size space and how old are they? Are they arguing over limited resources? Are they possibly bored? Or has anything happened recently to cause stress?

We have 6 birds. They have a 10 by 10 run with the coop on the inside. We’ve been in the process of renovating, just put the new run up but theres nothing they could have scraped on. It’s possible they are bored but these two are higher in the pecking order, or at least I thought they were. The Dominique is the number 2 chicken.

This happened in last years polar vortex in the negative temperatures. Petroleum jelly didn't save his comb in those extreme temps.
