I've been looking at getting some chickens for the first time and i found the Black Copper Maran, it seems like the perfect breed for me. If anyone knows if Tractor Supply has them, please tell me yes or no. Also could you tell any fun facts about this particular breed that would be great also. THANKS EVERYBODY!!!!!!

You might stop by the Black Copper Marans thread and chat with other owners about this breed...https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/444381/black-copper-marans-discussion-thread

Good luck and welcome to our flock!

What is your location? The ones in New Jersey never stock anything outside the basics (Easter Eggers, Red Sex Links, Black Sex Links, Buffs). Copper Marans are generally selective also. You probably want to look into breeders or eggs to hatch yourself. This way you'll get deep colored eggs and better birds.

I wouldn't trust TSC to get any breed right. And I have never seen anything other than the basics there either. Even when I try to tell our local one that they have chicks mis-labeled, they blow it off. Our local orschelns does a way better job and has a greater variety.

Thanks everybody, also what about the Silver Cuckoo Maran? Are they a good breed? Are they rare or not? Are they easy to find in stores? How expensive are they? Thanks for your help. And also I live in the thumb of Michigan so do you think that any tractor supplies have that certain breed in my area.:p:/

I actually got some chicks from tractor supply expecting some silver laced Wyandotte’s and ended up with 5 chicks that were definitely not Wyandotte’s. After some research I found they were black copper marans (single comb, white markings in the right areas, pinkish legs with black on them and mild feathering on the legs). They are still chicks so this discovery could be false- yet I guess they do sell black copper maras (would it be French black copper due to the feathered legs?)
