Our Bassett Hound ate one chicken and ripped at the wing of our 4 month old barred rock, Stitch.

She is calm and alert. She is panting occasionally, but that could be the heat. She has drank a little. Is it humane to treat her with antibiotic powder, a hospital cage and TLC?

Here is a photo of her injuries. Sorry it is blurry.

I have read about other people with one winged chickens due to injuries. So, I'd say yes, but I'd consider an antibiotic injectable instead of just a powder. Clean the wound, dress with antibiotic ointment with NO PAIN KILLER in it. A baby aspirin I think it is for pain. I don't know how you are going to house her, but she needs to be kept separate until the skin has grown over completely. She may also need some added heat to help with possible shock. Poor thing. You could use moleskin or newskin over the injury to help keep it clean. Good luck.

I found the other chicken- Surfer Girl. She wasn't eaten. YEAH!

OK, here is what I have done. I couldn't find any powder at Rural King, but I did irrigate the wounds with saline wash, cover them with triple antibiotic cream, cover them with a non-stick wound pad and wrap it up with vet wrap. Surfer Girl's wounds are more bloody but not up by her wing joint; her's are along her back. I plan on changing the bandages twice a day, every 12 hours.

I have them together in a small dog crate with lots of old towels and water. They are in our basement which is draft free and about 75 degrees. Should I put a heat lamp on them?

I think that the barred rock's wing is not going to come off, it is the skin along and under the wing, but the joint seems perfectly fine. They are such sweet babies, I feel just awful.

I do have some Tylan injectible, but I thought that was for respiratory issues, not wounds, should I give some just in case?

Where do I get penicillin? Would TSC have it? Orschelin? Besides Rural King, those are my only options. Thanks everyone for your advice and support. Surprisingly, the two girls seem fine and don't show obvious signs of pain, but I know they must be hurting terribly. They are cuddled up to each other and are drinking and eating, which is a good sign.
