My wife called me tonight while I was on the way home from work and told me that one of my browns was on my porch fighting with one of my pointers. The dogs and chickens are obviously always separated but somehow something happened tonight. My wife was luckily able to separate them before any major damage was done I have a stock tank set up for emergencies in the garage which is where she placed the hen until I got home. I carefully examined her and only found out she is limping on one leg badly but seems to have a full range of motion and does try to stand on it and will somewhat hold her weight with it. I gave her some treats and water which she tolerated perfectly fine. I did pick up some roller gauze and medical tape but was hesitant to use it without speaking with somebody here first who might have more knowledge of a leg injury then I do. She does not seem to be anything more than extremely uncomfortable similar to somebody who was just in a major car accident. My plan was to keep her separated until tomorrow before sundown and then reassess the damage at that time. Does anybody disagree with my course of action? Should I split it or wrap it up even though she seems to be doing okay without it?

Yikes! So good you have everything ready. You said " I carefully examined her and only found out she is limping on one leg badly but seems to have a full range of motion and does try to stand on it and will somewhat hold her weight with it". If after observation, you feel strongly that nothing is broken, confinement observation and rest is best. You are spot on. hope it's nothing serious and she heals quickly!

So I gave it a few days and after monitoring her movement, she seemed to be supporting her weight fairly and walking 80% okay. I put her back in the coop tonight about 7pm and she hobbled down the walk on her own. Thanks again for the response the other night. The course of action seemed appropriate for her injury and so far so good.

I'm so glad to hear that and you're welcome! Thank you so much for updating her progress. Shout out again when she's all better ok?
