dog attack!!! killed 2 hens 1 roo

[five is my dog]

recently i went on vacation.the people watching my chickens didnt lock them up over night (they free range)dogs killed my sweet roo and my 2 best egg layers. i got home and my chickens who are pretty good layers only had like 1 egg every day. i do not know if thats because they were scared so bad or they didnt feed them layer food while we were gone. now my chickens are very skidish and afraid of my sweet dogs who have never chased them and even me when i go to feed them they jump back from me and dont eat till im gone ive been feeding them out of my hands and giving them treats but it doesn't seem to be working!

Our oldest flock has never been the same since a couple of dog attacks. Have since armor plated their yards, and the dogs can no longer get in. I don't know how to get them 'over' the shock. It was almost a full 12 hours before they even started moving around and eating much.

Flock should recover within a few days at most from such an event. Persistent changes more a function or remaining personalities.

Personalities is thus dominating factor. Other possibility is how you treat birds following event.

i kept them in the pen for about 3 days afterwards but i didnt want to keep them penned up so they free range but ive been keeping a close eye on them. my roo always showed them what to do and protected them and i think they miss having a roo around to protect them
