Dog attack killed one of our chickens, questions about the behavior of the rest of the flock.

Good morning everyone,

We had a Easter egg chicken who liked hiding her eggs all over the yard, she would come and go as she pleased. The dog next door has been around the chickens but for whatever reason he was in crazy mode and killed her, very sad, she was a sweet little bird.

Now the other chickens and rooster must have witnessed the attack and they stopped laying eggs for a few days, two of the chickens are laying normal eggs but the third one is laying very thin shelled eggs which break very easily. What could be causing this? Could it be stress from the attack still, our fourth chicken is still not laying eggs so I guess they could all be suffering a little.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Scott,

Could be stress for sure. They should come around soon.

They'll come around but it may take a couple of weeks. Some chickens seem fine the next day some take much longer.

The stress of the attack may affect their foraging patterns and egg laying for a week or two.
