I see a dog crate measuring 32 x 30 x 26 on craigslist for dirt cheap. Thinking about snagging it. With some straw down at the bottom, would that be a good place to safely lock up my ducks at night? I might even lock them in and then carry it into the house. Since they're just babies still and I like to coddle them. Hee. I only have 2. And I gotta say, I'm proud of my tough little ducks! I've been letting them have supervised free range time outside, watching closely for the chickens reactions. Well, a hen approached and was curious about their water trough and food dish and my 5-6 week old rouen charged that great big hen and the full grown hen ran scared into the bushes!! HAHAHAH! Laughed so hard. Oh they're so funny. I went into the back to water the garden and I came back and there are DUCKS IN MY KITCHEN! They seem a little bit intimidated to be outside without walls around them. Their outdoor brooder is not suitable for night time because it is a far cry from coon proof, and its open bottomed so I can't just bring it in. Been bringing them inside at night but they're outgrowing it. And I want my bathroom back :( Its so tiny I can't even go in there and pee when the ducks are in there! lol!

I use a dog crate all the time. I guess if it locks secure and it's a covered one should work. I don't know about it being coon proof. those darn coons could open a combination lock. I used my dog kennel for chickens, ducks, rabbits, baby goats, lambs. works great. Sometimes hard to clean though. If I see a kennel at a garage sale I snag it. I even have a 6 x 8 ft kennel with a plywood lid and tarp we put on and use that for sheltering anything that needs it. put hardware cloth around the bottom chainlink and used it for baby ducks and baby rabbits. Also put wire on bottom to keep things from digging in or out.
