Dog friendly chicken barrier?

What is this even supposed to mean?
Very difficult concept for you. Open ground is something the chickens will avoid crossing if they have good cover with ample forage. Foraging ducks will do the opposite where they will be inclined to stay in open to avoid predators approaching from there. Your ducks will show this pattern in free-range setting where they have choices. If they are confined to runs, you will not be able to relate.

I can understand the concept just fine with a little more explanation of the original post.
that might be a good concept if you are setting up your yard with that in mind from the beginning.
Most people's backyards already have trees shrubs etc. in place it's going to be a little bit hard to just move those things to provide
"Distance over open ground"

I cannot speak for chickens as I have not owned any.
but as far as my standard size ducks go they're not always confined to a run. I allow them to roam around the yard freely when I am here to watch them.
Granted it is not the same as being out on a farm with acreage or anything like that,
But they spend most of their time drilling around trees, under shrubs, sticking their heads in the daylilies and hiding in the flower beds. They do not typically just hang out in the open center of the yard. However they would not be afraid to cross a large open area if they spotted something across that open area they wanted.
