This is my current chicken set up. Its an old dog house built into the wall of the garage. Its about two foot deep by four foot long. The opening is maybe a foot wide, so I am limited on what I wil be able to manuever in to it. I plan to saw an old apple crate in half to make it shorter (to fit through the opening) and put that in there for a roost. Is there anything else I should consider getting? I also plan to get clean shavings to put in there, the TSC near me was out of straw.
I would like her to be as free range as possible. I looked at fencing but I am wondering if there is any real need to put up a fence? She will be locked up at night. She likes to hang out by my bird feeder, which was posistioned for easy viewing from the kitchen window. I rather enjoyed watching her pecking and scratching. If I fenced her in I would not be able to see her from the house.
