We have a 6 ft tall chainlink dog kennal run for the birds. They aren't in it 24/7, it's just a run for the day. I was thinking of growing a couple different kinds of gourds up it.

Will this work if I can get the gourds started up it pretty good? Is it harmfull for the chickens?

Types of gourds:
Egg
Birdhouse
and some others

You sure can, I often grow the birdhouse gourds on my run fencing. I've also grown tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash. When the Missus isn't looking, I throw the Zucchini squash to the chickens-----they love it and dispose of the evidence quickly.

I take it you don't like zucchini?

I grow luffa gourds and birdhouse on mine. The girls don't seem to have a taste for the plants although they will hollow out a gourd or two if they are antsy.
It won't hurt the birds. The seeds have the same deworming ability as pumpkin seeds. I crack a few of the soft leftovers that never made it to maturity and
feed to them.
