Dog mauled chickens. Bad.

My friend and I picked up 1 very sick badly mauled rooster today. Great big open wounds, bad overall condition, shaking, more so when the dogs in the street bark. I have organised to take the other 2 and the hen off the people who also own the dogs that maul them.
The poor creature is in a pen in my front yard, very safe. My friend has chickens and she dusted him with some fly strike powder which she said is antibiotic too ? He drank 2 bowls of water, had 5 feeds and is now asleep in a box with some woolies for warmth. She said he may die, or not. No maggots in the wounds.
I have to get some stuff to kill mites before I can move him into a sectioned off part of my back garden.
Anything more I can do or get to relieve the pain and shock ?
When I can move him, and the others, which I get in 2 days, they will be next to the part my small dogs run in, mesh fence between them, until they are better and we can find homes for them, hopefully. Its 300 sq metres so big enough, I think ?
My dogs will yap at them initially but not try to attack, even if they were face to face.
Will this traumatise/stress them ?
They were running loose on an unfenced garden and the street and the 2 big dogs just mauled them whenever they could get them. They all look a bit sick. Big injuries, hardly any feathers, stink, move slow. Maybe better off dead but feel sad they have had no life really, cant fly. They were magnificent when they got them a few months ago. What can I do for them ?
I have never kept chickens.

Oh those poor chickens. First of all clean those wounds really well. Go to your feed store or tractor and supply and buy a antiseptic called woundkote(sprays on purple) or scarlet oil(sprays on pink). Keep them separate so the others don't peck at the wounds. They can recover. Are they walking okay? Make sure they have fresh clean water, you can place a vitamin supplement in their water, sugar to make them drink more. The vitamin, your feed store should have some. Good luck and by the way welcome to byc and the world of chickens.

I would NOT keep them outside, Keep them in the house in a dark quiet place, wash the wounds out realy well, and put some neosporin (without pain reliever) on the wounds. If you keep them outside where they see and hear the dogs that will no doubt stress them out even more. Sounds like those poor chooks have been thru the ringer and need stability and safety. I would be really concerned about infection setting in if it hasn't already. Bless your heart for taking these poor chickens in. Maybe you could post pics of them so others can see and maybe have better advice for you. I hope they pull thru

I live on a half acre block and breed/show cats and toy poodles.
My dogs live inside so it would stress them more. Front garden is large, fenced and safe and dog free.
Concerned about mites/contamination etc as my grounds are flea free and my animals/cat runs meticulously cleaned.
Will take photos tomorrow & post.

I dealt with a similar issue last year. I had 5 injured chickens after a dog got in our coop and killed 8. Several had very bad skin tears. I mixed up a saline solution and rinsed the wounds first. I gave the chickens stitches where needed with a sterilized sewing needle and cotton thread (it was all I had). I applied a wound dressing over the stitches and used horse bandaging to wrap the wounds. (all of my supplies I got from Southern State) I fed the chickens antibiotics to keep them from getting infections, and changed the wound dressing daily. I also put a little white willow bark in there food for pain, and pureed lots of leafy greens for them to promote healing. After 2 weeks, the feathers were coming back, and the chickens were up again wanting to peck and scratch. They made a complete recovery and are still with me. I hope this helps!

Aww poor things! It's great of you to take them in like that when you are not even a chicken owner. I can tell you this...you WILL be now

I sure hope the chickens will recover. I can't believe they just let those dogs attack them and not do anything for them
