I am new to BYC and just started. I have 6, 4-1/2 week old Delaware Pullets. I have a beautiful coop that we put together last weekend and it's all ready. My questions is: If I let my Chickens out to free range other than in their very large enclosure, I have dogs and don't always see where they pooped. Will dog poop hurt my Chickens or will they eat it? Thanks!

:welcome hey glad you joined us here the chickens do not eat the dog poop now dogs can and will eat chicken poop all day long they can also kill chickens bring the dog out on a leash first till you know how it will react you did not say what breed your dog is ? but peeps that young need to be protected

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow We're so excited that you've joined our little flock:ya

No it won't hurt them, yes they will pick through it and spread it out—but only if it has fly larva in it (aka meal worms). My friend moves his chickens in behind his cows three days after they were on that paddock so the chickens clean up the fly larva and spread the manure. Also @penny1960 gave really good advice as well.

my chickens do love to spread the goats manure near my garden but never seen the eat it. I actually find it helpful when they do that... it's less I've got to turn the pile

Good point! My dog is the sweetest and most gentle girl ever. Even when the cat smacks her she just puts her head down and walks away sad looking. So I thought when I brought my chickens home my sweet Sadie would be great with them. WRONG. She never hurt them but may have if she could have caught them. Never seen her act that way. But instinct I guess. Now she lives peacefully with them around and realizes the are friends not food. So no matter the temperament of your pup they can suprise you when instinct kicks in sometimes. What type of dog do you have? LOVE dogs!
