i have never taught it .. but i have seen the basics of tracking started....
for young dogs,,, drag a piece of bacon along the grass and "hide" a small piece.. start with a few inches.. work up to a few feet.. from a few feet.. longer and longer untill they can track the bacon all over the yard....
you also have to let them smell the bacon scent on/in your hand so they get used to smelling what is in your hand and then GOING to look for it...
this is the beginings of teaching how to track.....
then you need to transfer tracking bacon to tracking a person that gives them bacon at the end of the track...
and YES finding someone that already hunts might help you more than i can with that.. i just know the basics of teaching the hunt/track
