I decided to give my girl Bella a fresh scoop of dogfood and she had a small sample left in the bowl from the day before (yes, she is a little spoiled)and I thought why should I waste it? Not that I would do this everyday, but could I give it to the chickens? It is a good brand, very low grain filler, so I am willing to give them a handful..........would this be okay?

I don't see why not. Wet cat food is recommended after molting due to its high protein content. Dog food doesn't have as much protein, but I don't think a little handful would do any harm, just as a quick snack or treat.

Thank you for asking this question. A friend told me he gives his chickens a little cat food so I was going to ask if that was ok. He does it for protein content.

Dog and cat wet food is okay as a treat but is no real protein source. I think it's like 8-10% protein which isn't very much compared to eggs or ground meat.
