OK I have a question. I have had chickens and dogs for a few years now. Always let them around each other. The dogs even go in the chicken coop when I feed them and eat chicken feed with the chickens. They have never bothered each other. I let my chickens roam free during the day and the dogs are in a lot beside where the chickens roam. While I have noticed one chicken chasing one of my dogs through the fence. Well today my chicken (Lucille) stuck her head trough the fence. Which she did often to holler for the dogs to come over. Today I don't know what happened but I walked outside to check on everyone and found a dead chicken (broken neck) some blood on one link of the chain link fence and my dog with a couple blood drops on his head. He had to have gotten her, she was not laying close to the fence though. My main question is do you think that he will now try to get at my chickens or was this just a freak accident.. I am going to add chicken wire over the bottom half of the chainlink though as a precaution so no chickens can get there head in the dog lot. I just don't understand none of my dogs have ever bothered any of the chickens.. Should I continue to let him around them while supervised.. Any advise in appreciated..

Sorry to hear the sad news. I think it may just be a freak accident. I really don;t know for sure.. Putting chicken wire on lower section is a good idea. Keep same from happening again.
Welcome sadly
