Thought this was a cool story to share with you all
So I have 5 dogs. 4 are oddly protective of my ducks. 1 is indifferent
when I let my dogs out they all run over to the pen and touch noses with the ducks through the hardware cloth before going off into the yard to play
Few nights ago, maybe 11pm, my dogs are going absolutely nuts. Wanting to go outside. They had been out for the night already, But I let them out. And they bolted right to the duck pen and then to the back fence. The female dogs started patrolling the back fence line while the 2 male dogs started marking along the fence and along the duck pen.
Couldn’t see what they were riled up about. the ducks have coops in their pen. One for Peep and Nibbler, one for Rio and Rudy. The coops have little run areas where I keep their food and water. They usually sleep in that area and hardly use the nesting boxes. But all the ducks were hiding in the nesting boxes. Something had scared them before we got outside.
Then I heard it yell back at the dogs. A raccoon had been in the yard.
I am fairly secure in my pen being as predator proof as possible but it’s nice to have a canine back up
