I killed an old hen that wasn't laying, and didn't have time to fully pluck, gut and dress it. Dog food being as expensive as it is, and the dogs being the ones who are letting the chickens free range without a care in the world, I decided to make some dog food: Throw the carcass in a big pot with a few inches of water and let it slow steam cook over night. In the morning I let it cool down and set it out for the dogs' breakfast after a hard night of chasing nocturnal predators but then guess what happened?
Neither one of my dogs went for it!
So I chopped up the chicken and made sure it was thoroughly cooked and checked the broth which at leas smelled tasty -- although if the dogs aren't going to eat something I'm sure as heck not going to even taste it!
The dogs _still_ wouldn't go for it!
Something in that chicken must have been pretty nasty, but it seemed healthy when I killed it.
Any ideas what turned the dogs off to it?
