Well, I am not exactly an expert on chickens. I just like them and have a small flock.
The problem started when I got a complaint from a neighbor about my coop being less than 200 feet from the property line. Yup, that's the zoning regs in my small town.
So I decided to change the zoning laws. The firs thing I did was go to my Library and get a room to give a talk called "How to Raise Backyard Chickens" because I figured that I could get support from people who also wanted to have a few hens in their yard.
Also, I needed more people to fight this battle with me. The zone change cost is $185
So I got a phone call from the local newspaper about the "educator" that is going to be giving this talk and I said "You are speaking to her" and then she said she wanted to interview me and send a photographer over on Tuesday. Yikes!
All I have is a 4x4 peaked roof (think outhouse) coop that has a window, tyvec and a swing door out into a little "run". I lost one of my best chickens to a racoon a few months ago . She is alive but living at the veterinarians house. I have two roos that I picked from a run. and one young silver laced wyendotte hen that a friend gave me to replace the one I lost.
My talk is going to be about basic chicken care. You know; When you bring home a few fuzzballs and need to know how to care for them?
I am pretty sure I can do this but I wasn't expecting to have a piece put in the paper before my talk on the 15th of August. I am still working out the power point presentation.
I would also like to do a scale model of a coop so I can talk about all the details. But I don't have much time for that. Anyone have any ideas I would appreciate it soooo much
